kitchen + pantry organization

Happy New Year! Anyone else ready to tackle some home projects? Something about a new year and that fresh start feeling that really motivates me. I’m sharing some basic tips and tricks I use to keep my kitchen and pantry organized and looking clean and pretty.

To avoid the question “where’s all your stuff?”, I’ll just start off by saying that I am a minimalist. I’m aware I look completely type A, but clutter makes me crazy. So basically, if there’s something in a kitchen drawer or cabinet that I haven’t used in a year, I get rid of it! I’m also a sucker for pretty packaging and simple, neutral labeling.

Our pantry used to have floor to ceiling open wire shelving and it drove me nuts to see everything piled up and out in the open. So, we ripped out those shelves and built custom cubbies that I could fit baskets in. I love being able to hide away all the kids snacks and not so pretty packaging. So if you’re looking at these photos and thinking where’s all the food? It’s all in those baskets. They’re big and there’s 12 of them in there. I keep canned goods and cereal in a couple of our upper kitchen cabinets.

I recently ordered these glass canisters (in the 10 x 15cm size) and labels (Standard pantry/size 2.8″ square) to organize some items in our pantry. Any leftovers that didn’t fit in the canister, I just put a clip on and tossed in a cupboard until they need refilling. Don’t they just make everything look so pretty? Everything is so easy to find!

Under the sink organization

Here’s my big tip for organizing cleaning supplies under you sink. Throw everything in a basket! But before you do that, take everything out and sort through what you really need and use on a regular basis. It’s amazing how much random stuff can accumulate under there!

I make my own all purpose cleaner with Thieves and I love that it’s in a pretty amber glass bottle. Here are some pretty labels to use on amber or just plain glass bottles for cleaning supplies.

Tips for storing kitchen linens

Last January I learned the Marie Kondo folding method (thank you, Netflix!) and I haven’t looked back! It’s crazy how much more you can fit in a drawer when they’re folded in thirds like this. Plus, you can see everything! If you’re interested in learning how, just google Marie Kondo towel folding method. I promise it will change your life!

Flatware drawer organization

I like using large drawer organizer trays that fill the space as much as possible. I found these at Ikea, but I will link a bunch of options in this post so you can find something that works for your drawer!

TIP: If your trays slide around when you open and close the drawer, just stick a 3m strip to the bottom of the tray. Works like a charm, and doesn’t damage the drawer!

Storing pots and pans

I like to keep this space as clutter free as possible too. I only keep a few select pots and pans. I mean, when am I ever going to use 5 fry pans at once? Here’s a fun trick…use a wooden dish rack to store lids. It works great!

How to organize your spices

Ok, here’s my favorite drawer in the house. I gave my spices a little love a while back with these glass jars from Amazon and labels from Etsy. This is right next to the stove so it’s really convenient for cooking! They do slide around a tiny bit, but not enough to bother me.
